Emma Darling's Story

At just three years old, Emma had already survived neglect. Today she is healthy and thriving, with one hurdle left: surgery to restore the sight she has never really had.

Emma Darling's story began long before we met her.

At just three years old, this beautiful standard poodle had already endured more than any dog should. When Emma came into our care, she was in heartbreaking condition. She was severely underweight, her coat was matted tightly against her skin, her nails had grown several inches long, and she was suffering from a painful skin infection. Most concerning of all, Emma could barely see.

Despite everything she had been through, Emma greeted the world with kindness.

Months of healing

Over the past several months, we focused on helping her heal. We carefully restored her health, treated her medical issues, got her fully vaccinated, and gave her the nutrition and care she desperately needed. Today, Emma is healthy, comfortable, and thriving. In fact, she has gone from emaciated to perhaps just a little spoiled.

Turning to her sight

Once Emma was healthy enough, we turned our attention to her vision.

After examinations with her veterinarian and a veterinary ophthalmologist, we learned that Emma's blindness is caused by genetic cataracts. The good news is that she is an excellent candidate for corrective surgery. The specialists believe there is a real opportunity for Emma to regain her sight and experience the world in a way she never has before.

So far, we have spent approximately $1,200 on Emma's rehabilitation, medical care, vaccinations, diagnostics, and specialty consultations. The surgery and follow-up care needed to restore her vision are expected to cost several thousand dollars more.

A chance to see

Emma deserves the chance to see the faces of the people who love her. She deserves to chase toys she can actually watch, explore the world with confidence, and enjoy the life every dog should have.

We are raising funds to help make that happen. Every donation, share, and word of support brings Emma one step closer to seeing again.

Thank you for being part of Emma's journey.

With love,

Amber & Paws and Effect
